With July sunshine comes important health information.

Hot beach

The month of July can be hot, humid and often, a challenge to our comfort and health. In this newsletter we’re sharing our newest blog that helps patients understand how to prepare and cope with Extreme Heat. We’re also sharing news about the exciting possibility of expanded roles for our Nurse Practitioners. And as we do each month, we are proud to share our Team Showcase. This month we’re shining the light on Dawn. We hope you find our newsletter informative and helpful! We are here to help you live your best life and part of that commitment is keeping you up to date with important information.

Monthly Message

As summer unfolds our highest priority at Winterberry is to give you accurate information you can use to stay as healthy and comfortable as possible. Please review the articles in this newsletter for information on COVID-19 vaccination guidelines as well as information on managing extreme heat.

Our team stands with Bob Kemp Hospice – A fundrasier

During the month of June and early July our team raffled off a Breville Espresso machine with proceeds going to Bob Kemp Hospice here in Hamilton. Munira was the lucky winner and is now going to be working on becoming a great home barista!

Message from Patient Liaison Rachel

As summer continues, we hope that you and your family are enjoying the season!

Expanded role for NPs?

The Ontario government is starting consultations with the College of Nurses of Ontario and other health care partners on expanding the scope of practice for nurse practitioners. Allowing nurse practitioners to better use their training, skills and education will help Ontarians connect to more convenient care and help free up more time for physicians to spend caring for patients with more complicated needs. We’re watching with great interest the Ministry’s announcement regarding Nurse Practitioners, who are an important part of our health care delivery team. For more information click here.

Helping You To Know Us Better

Team Showcase for July!

Each month we have the privilege to catch up to one of our busy team members in order that our patients can get to know them better through our Team Showcase Q+A. This month we chatted with Dawn about her role at Winterberry and what inspired her to go into nursing.

Dawn, tell us about your work at Winterberry. What’s your role?

I am a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN).

What is your educational and work background?

I have been an RPN for 21+ years. I have been lucky enough to spend the bulk of my nursing career working in Primary Care but I have also worked in a variety of settings such as Oncology, Acute care, Long Term Care and community based nursing.

What made you want to be an RPN?

For as long as I can remember I’ve wanted to work in the healthcare field. As I explored my options Nursing really stood out as being the right choice. Becoming a nurse has been one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences in my life! There is never a dull moment as a nurse, you’re constantly learning and growing and it has allowed me to meet some pretty incredible people along the way!

What made you want to be a part of the Winterberry team compared to other clinics?
